Peter NitschkePeter's forestry career began in 1983 as a statistician in J. D. Irving's tree improvement program in Sussex, New Brunswick. In 1989 he moved to Truro, Nova Scotia to take on the role of Manager of the Department of Lands and Forests’ Tree Breeding Centre and run the province's tree improvement cooperative. He then joined the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources in Sault Ste. Marie as Tree Improvement Coordinator and Provincial Silviculturist.

In 1998, he joined BMFC as its first General Manager. Peter holds Bachelors and Masters Degrees in forestry from the University of Toronto and is a Registered Professional Forester (RPF). He is a committed professional, and regularly participates in provincial policy development initiatives. Peter was the last President of the Ontario Forestry Safe Workplace Association, served for 4 years as a Councilor of the Ontario Professional Foresters' Association, and is an Executive Member of the Woodlands Committee of the Ontario Forest Industries' Association.
