Gord was born and raised in Bancroft, and his family has deep roots in the local forestry scene. His father Robert and uncle Jim owned and operated a water-powered sawmill in L’Amable, just south of Bancroft, until 1960. After high school, Gord spent a short period of time working for General Motors in Oshawa, but most of his time has been spent in the bush.
He worked for 18 years with the Ministry of Natural Resources as a forest fire fighter, seeing action across the country. When he wasn’t putting out fires, Gord ran his own logging company and controlled brush on local Hydro rights-of-way. Gord joined the Company shortly after it was formed, and his background in logging operations and extensive experience in timber cruising and tree marking have been tremendous assets.
